Samanta Grimaldi (She/Her)

MS, LPC-Associate

As a therapist, I have the privilege of working with adolescents and adults who are seeking to better understand themselves and improve their relationships with others. I strongly believe that everyone deserves a second chance to grow and become their best selves, even if their past experiences may have hindered their ability to form healthy relationships.

My goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment where individuals can build a strong foundation of trust, respect, and collaboration. This therapeutic relationship serves as a laboratory where individuals can explore and experiment with new ways of interacting with others, which can ultimately lead to more positive and fulfilling relationships. I believe that everyone has the potential to grow and change, and it is my honor to support my clients on their journey toward personal growth and self-discovery.

My approach to therapy is rooted in a deep understanding of Psychoanalysis and the impact of trauma on our lives. However, I also recognize the importance of incorporating innovative techniques that can complement traditional talk therapy. That’s why I have recently integrated Somatic Experiencing®, a body-based approach that recognizes the physical manifestations of trauma, into my clinical practice. Through this modality, I will work with you to explore both your thoughts and feelings, as well as the physical sensations that arise in your body. By including your body as a messenger of your emotions and sensations, we can gain a more holistic understanding of your experiences and work towards healing deep-seated traumas that may be holding you back.

I identify as a Latina immigrant and I specialize in working with immigrant populations.  Additionally, my work is effective with trauma survivors suffering from anxiety and depression, complicated/complex grief, and women’s issues including sexuality and maternity. I have a Master’s degree in Brazil where I worked as a Psychologist for several years. I have been living in Austin since 2015. My professional experience includes working in areas such as Pediatric Oncology, Mental Health Services for clients with PTSD, and Inpatient and Outpatient Social Psychiatric Clinics. I am currently an LPC-Associate in Texas under the supervision of Jennifer Buffalo, LPC-S, LMFT.

A Word from your Therapist

There is no thought or feeling that is less important or that does not deserve attention. Your small flaws mark you, make you unique, and can become your greatest strength. I am interested in inviting you to a journey of self-knowledge, where you can discover your potential to have a fuller life.

Personal Identities

Educational and Work Background

My academic background is from Brazil and I am currently completing professional training in Somatic Experiencing® (www.traumahealing.org) at the intermediate level. I have a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, specializing in hospital Psychology, and Clinical Psychology, specifically in Lacanian Psychoanalysis. I have previous experience working in a pediatric oncology hospital with families and in various psychiatric clinics with clients at different levels of care, helping me develop into the skilled professional that I am today. Currently, I am working at Luminary Counseling, PLLC (private practice), and the Center of Survivors of Torture (www.cstnet.org), a nonprofit organization supporting refugees.

Hobbies or Personal Interests

When I am not working, I like to spend time with my family and meet friends for a coffee. I am part of a running group and I love to explore new trails! I have a huge interest in learning about the diversity of cultures. I appreciate the practice of Brazilian religious syncretism, and I maintain strong bonds with my culture. Also, I am interested in yoga and practices that favor body-mind integration.

Why Did you Become a Therapist?

Since a young age, I’ve always been interested in what’s behind words and silence, in relationships, family secrets, and behavior patterns.
